Why this album? For David and Marijke, the answer feels almost self-evident. Since 2009 they have played together in the Melisma Saxophone Quartet, an ensemble they remain active in to this day, and they further share their musical energies as members of the Nederlands Saxofoon Octet. Noota felt like a natural extension of that partnership: a project in which they could bring together the music they most want to share with listeners, and in which playing is simply, purely, a joy.
The repertoire gathered here spans works composed especially for them, arrangements made by David himself, and pieces so compelling they could not be left out. Collaborating with Dolf and Christian on their compositions added yet another dimension to the whole: inspiring, genuinely pleasurable, and something for which both musicians feel deeply grateful. The result is an album full of music that is close to their hearts.
