Family of Hearts

Thomas Dulfer

Description

"Family of Hearts is a result of my search of incorporating the study of the heart and using technique into my music. During a program development initiative called Windows of Opportunity I got the opportunity to work with Fedde ten Berge, who developed a heart pulse detection machine that translated the heartrate signal into music. With this machine I have translated many hearts into music. For my album I decided to create a piece with the heartbeats of all the people that are close to me. These heartbeats are put together into a melancholic soundscape by Rogier, all triggering notes of my bassoon. The people who donated their heartbeat to this project are: Mohammed Abusamaan, Deborah Witteveen, Hildegard Leliveld, Peter Dulfer, Sebastiaan Dulfer, Pepijn Tielens, Frans Leliveld, Christine Dulfer, Mieke Leijten, Carla Bröcker, Iris Vegting, Roos Vegting, Britt Vegting, Margot Venhuizen, Annemijn Gregory, Jessie Wezenbeek, and Luuk Hopman."
