Child in Time (Bassoon Version)

Deep Purple (arr. Thomas Dulfer)

Description

"When I was young, I did not come into contact with rock music very much, but after being inspired by Bram van Sambeek, I wanted to explore this genre on the bassoon. I asked my dad what he thought would be a great song to arrange, and he immediately suggested Child in Time. Its impressive and long guitar solo was the perfect way to showcase the rock capacities of the bassoon and shows that besides the nice singing capabilities of the bassoon, it is also very much capable of screaming and rocking with an edgy sound.

Written during the Cold War, Child in Time is a protest song about conflict and the cycles of violence. With the world facing devastating wars today, this piece feels more relevant than ever. Through this arrangement, I hope to channel its raw emotion and timeless message in a new way."
