Frequently Asked Questions

Below, you can find some answers to questions you may have regarding our catalogue, download and physical formats, and the ordering process itself. Should you have any other question, don’t hesitate to write us an email or call us.

What different formats does TRPTK offer?

In our catalogue, all of our titles are available in a plethora of downloading choices. We can imagine it’s a lot to take in. Hopefully this little F.A.Q. can help you out with your choice.

We currently offer three resolutions (96 kHz, 192 kHz and 352.8 kHz, all in 24 bits word length), and on most titles three channel configurations (stereo, 5.1 surround and 9.1 Auro-3D). You can find out more about these formats below.

What does 'resolution' mean, and which do I choose?

In our catalogue, all of our titles are available in a plethora of downloading choices. We can imagine it’s a lot to take in. Hopefully this little F.A.Q. can help you out with your choice.

FLAC 96 kHz 24 bits, even though it’s around 2,5 times higher than CD quality, is our lowest quality download available. This is because we find there’s a big difference between CD resolution (44.1 kHz 16 bits) and this (96/24 for short). And, because it can still playback on almost any system, we thought to not even bother with lower quality downloads. For the price of an average iTunes MP3 download, with us, you’ll get a download that’s 2,5 times better than CD!

FLAC 192 kHz 24 bits is the next step-up. This format will still play on a lot of hi-fi systems, but not on all. Consult the user manual of your DAC or playback device to see if this resolution is supported. When in doubt, don’t hesitate to write us!

DXD 352.8 kHz 24 bits is the highest quality currently available in our store, and it’s a staggering 12 times higher than CD resolution. And not only that, but if your system can play these files (check out the user manual to be sure), you’re guaranteed to listen to an exact one-to-one copy of our original studio masters. No alterations, no conversions, none whatsoever. We recommend this quality for the purist, the audiophile who wants nothing but the best.

What does 'channels' mean, and what's the right one for me?

In our catalogue, all of our titles are available in a plethora of downloading choices. We can imagine it’s a lot to take in. Hopefully this little F.A.Q. can help you out with your choice.

Stereo is the one you’re probably most familiar with. It just means the master was made for two speakers, in a left-right configuration. This is the same as pretty much 99.9% of all music downloads and streams, as well as CD quality. When in doubt, choose this format.

5.1 Surround is a great format for home theater and high-end music enthusiasts. You get a more immersive experience listening to 5.1 Surround masters, especially in higher resolutions. The system is comprised of speakers in a L/R/C/LFE/Ls/Rs format.

9.1 Auro-3D is the ultimate format for truly perfectly immersive listening experiences. Do check out whether your system allows for playback of these files. It should say somewhere in the manual if it does. Our 9.1 Auro-3D files are laid out in the standard format of L/R/C/LFE/Ls/Rs/Lh/Rh/Lsh/Rsh.

Which formats does my device play?

Whether or not a specific device can play back a certain file downloaded from our catalogue of course depends on what specific device make/model you use. Even though below is simply a rough guideline, be sure to consult the user manual of your playback device to be completely sure.

Windows and MacOS systems almost always support FLAC 96 kHz 24 bits. You might not always be able to play FLAC files on any media player, though, but there are a lot of great options out there for high quality music enjoyment.

Smartphones and tablets support FLAC 96 kHz 24 bits in almost all cases as well. However, oftentimes, you’ll need a specific app to play them. If you’re unsure what app you need, write us a message and we’ll try to help you out!

(High-end) Hi-Fi systems usually support a large range of resolution, often at least FLAC 192 kHz 24 bits and in a lot of cases DXD 352.8 kHz 24 bits as well. This includes hardware streamers like those of Auralic, Merging Technologies, and Aurender, to name a few. If you’re unsure, refer to your user manual or write us a message.

What playback software should I use?

The answer to this question begins with another question. Do you plan on streaming from a Windows machine, a Mac, or a Linux-based system?

Windows users who are just starting out, we would recommend starting with something free to see what suits your needs. Some good free playback software for Windows includes Foobar2000 and VLC Media Player, the latter of which is also a great general video player. If you’re willing to spend a bit of money, some great software you can also organise your catalogue with is jRiver Media Center. There’s even an iOS/Android app to control it with! Finally, the creme de la creme of playback software, the Rolls Royce if you will, is Roon. Though not cheap by any stretch of the imagination, it’s by far the most intelligent and best-sounding playback software on the market.

Mac users can use all the same software as mentioned above, but on top of that there’s another piece of free software we can really recommend, which is MacOS-only (at the time of writing). It’s Vox Music Player, and it’s really flexible and feature-rich for such a cheap (again: free!) software. Be sure to check it out.

Within the Netherlands, you should expect your shipment to arrive within 1 to 3 business days if the product is in stock. If it isn’t, we’ll send you a message.

Within Europe, the estimated delivery time is between 3 and 6 business days, depending on your address. For a more precise indication, please write us a message.

Outside of Europe, delivery times are usually between 5 and 10 business days, also depending on your location. For a more precise indication, please write us a message.

Can I upgrade my download to a higher resolution?

Yes, this is always possible. Please write us an email with your order number and which format you’d like to upgrade to. We’ll then send you a payment link, and after payment, your upgraded download will show up in your account page.

Can I share my downloads with my friends?

There’s nothing better in this world than sharing music with the people you care about most. Unfortunately, if it were allowed for people to share music between themselves, our dear family of artists wouldn’t be able to make a living from what they do. Their livelihood depends largely from album sales and concert tickets, so by playing fair and having your friends just buy or stream the album, you’re helping out someone making more of their art for your.

I ordered the wrong product. What do I do?
