Joachim Eijlander performs as a soloist and chamber musician in Europe, Asia, and the United States.
Joachim has performed with ensembles and musicians such as the Borodin Quartet, Lisa Larsson, Robert Holl, Randall Scarlata, Inon Barnatan, Karl Leister, and Godfried Hoogeveen.
Joachim collaborated with composers Henri Dutilleux, György Kurtag, Sofia Gubaidulina, Louis Andriessen, and Joey Roukens.
Since 2019, Joachim has been the principal cello teacher at Codarts Rotterdam and a representative of the low strings department at the same institute. Additionally, he has been a cello professor at the Royal National Superior Conservatory of Music and Pedagogy in Namur since 2021.
In 2015, Joachim recorded all cello suites by Johann Sebastian Bach for the label Navis Classics, and in 2017 the CD “Sequentia!” followed, featuring exceptional caprices by the composers Joseph dall’Abaco and Alfredo Piatti. Finally, in 2020, “Dark Fire” was released by the label Trptk. An adventurous musical journey connecting the occident and the orient. All CDs received extremely positive reactions from the international press.
Joachim is a recurring guest at international festivals such as in Sitka Alaska and El Paso Texas (USA), Prussia Cove (UK), Schleswig-Holstein and Mecklenburg-Vorpommern (Germany).
As a soloist, Joachim performed with, among others, the National Symphony Orchestra of Ukraine, the Lviv Philharmonic Orchestra, the Chernihiv Philharmonic Orchestra, the Romanian State Philharmonic Tirgu Mures, Csikszereda Chamber Orchestra, and various festival orchestras.
Joachim connects his music with dancers, visual artists, and scientists in inspiring joint performances to inspire a broader interested audience.
In addition to various guest teaching positions at Dutch conservatories, Joachim has taught at Indiana University, Milwaukee Conservatoire, Oklahoma University, Ljubljana Conservatoire, and at international festivals. Joachim is a chamber music teacher at the Dutch String Quartet Academy department of the Amsterdam Conservatory.
In 2000, Joachim founded the Rubens Quartet and played in this internationally award-winning ensemble until 2015. He performed with this quartet at the Concertgebouw Amsterdam, Tonhalle Zurich, Philadelphia Chamber Music Society, Berliner Philharmonie, Konzerthaus Berlin, Dôme des Invalides Paris, and Rudolphinum Prague.
Joachim plays an exceptional instrument from 1755, made by an anonymous Tyrolean violin maker in Rome.
