His love for music was kindled at the music school by Kees Stikkers, an inspiring teacher and great connoisseur of Bach’s music. Of great influence were the lessons with Ton Hartsuiker, which he received at a young age. He completed his master studies at the Amsterdam conservatory with distinction with teacher Håkon AustbØ, who initiated him into the secrets of pianistic refinement and inspired music-making. Furthermore, meetings with e.g. Rudolf Jansen, Willem Brons, Murray Perahia and Claude Helffer (lessons in Paris 1998-2003) have shaped him.
As a chamber musician, he is privileged to work with inspiring colleagues of repute, such as Liza Ferschtman, Quirine Viersen, Nobuko Imai and Charles Neidich. He can also be heard regularly with The Hague String Trio, the Ruysdael Quartet, the Cong Quartet and others. He has also performed as a soloist with the Residentie orchestra, the Radio Kamer Filharmonie conducted by Peter Eötvös, Insomnio, the Netherlands Chamber Orchestra conducted by Werner Herbers and the njo conducted by Reinbert de Leeuw.
Daniel has appeared numerous times on radio and TV: including in DWDD, Podium Witteman, Tijd voor Max, Vrije geluiden and the Tiende van Tijl.
Daniel also works as a repetiteur. In that capacity, he worked with Nikolaus Harnoncourt, Anne Sofie von Otter, Joseph Calleja, Riccardo Chailly, Antonio Pappano and J.A. Gardiner, among others.
His qualities did not go unnoticed at competitions either. For instance, he won prizes at the Princess Christina Competition ’94 (national 1st prize), the concorso Seghizzi ’08 (first prize as a duo with soprano Sabine Wüthrich) and the Olivier Messiaen Competition in Paris ’07.
