Celia García-García is a classical pianist and celestist, praised for her versatility and virtuosity.
She is a much sought-after and experienced chamber musician who has given concerts all over the Netherlands and in Spain, Belgium, Germany, Russia, Canada, and China in very diverse ad hoc formations (for example with double bass player Dominic Seldis, harpist Doriene Marselje, the Paradiso Orchestra, the double bass and percussion sections of the KCO, etc). Since 2016, Celia has formed a duo with saxophonist Femke IJlstra with whom she released the album “Colores del Sur” in 2022. Since 2021, Celia has been one of the two regular pianists of the close-harmony formation Frommermann.
Celia García-García specializes in orchestral performance and recently performed with the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra, the Radio Philharmonic Orchestra, the Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra, the Netherlands Philharmonic Orchestra and Dutch Chamber Orchestra, the North Netherlands Orchestra, Amsterdam Sinfonietta, and others.
As an orchestral musician, she came into contact with the celesta, a relatively unknown instrument, and has since become a true ambassador of the instrument. Over the past years, she has given many solo and chamber music celesta concerts with among others Myrthe Helder, Brandt Attema, Bernadeta Astari, and the ensemble Club Classique. In 2022, she launched Celestial Blue, the first CD for solo celesta in the history of the instrument. Celestial Blue was Album of the Week on NPO Radio 4 in December 2022.
Her versatility is also reflected in interdisciplinary projects and innovative collaborations to introduce a wider audience to classical music. Her project “Is jazz music too?” is a collaboration of her duo IJlstra-García with director Annechien Koerselman and writer Corinne Heyrman around personal stories of composers G. Gershwin and M. Ravel and the legendary singer Éva Gauthier.
Together with soprano Florien de la Fosse, she forms a comedic classical song duo with which she has toured Dutch theaters with the performances Rabbits at top speed and Rabbits at work. Celia was a guest on TV programs such as Podium Witteman/Podium Klassiek, Maestro, and De Tiende van Tijl, and she regularly plays live on radio programs from NPO Radio 4 such as De Klassieken, Spiegelzaal, NTR Podium, and Maatwerk.
In addition to being a performing musician, Celia is the artistic programmer of the festivals Weekend van de Romantische Muziek in Rotterdam and Romantiek in Keukenhof.
Celia teaches classical repertoire and technique at the Utrecht Conservatory and she is a répétiteur and chamber music teacher at the Fontys Conservatory and Young Musician Academy in Tilburg.
